What it's like
The enclosure was never designed as a pool: it was built as a wave trap to stop swell entering the harbour, and locals soon took it over for swimming. A shark net separates swimmers from the boating channel, and the water is calm most days.
When to go
Calm days around high tide. Council has closed the pool at times to repair or replace the net.
Getting there and facilities
The pool is at the Tuncurry end of the Wallis Lake entrance, across the bridge from Forster. There is a car park, cafe, playground, toilets and barbecues nearby.
Good to know
It is unsupervised. Council says the net does not replace supervision and warns of strong currents near the southern edge. Big waves can wash over the north-eastern corner.
