What it's like

This is a proper Olympic-length pool filled with sea water, set right beside the beach, so you get a serious lap swim with ocean views. There is a beach-style sloping entry and a separate toddlers pool. The pool and its pavilion opened in 1937 and have the clean art deco lines of that era. It is a local favourite, used by early swimmers and squads year after year.

When to go

Council sets seasonal hours. From late October to mid-March it opens 6am to 7pm every day except Christmas Day. In autumn the hours shorten, and the pool closes for winter from 1 June until spring. Hours can change at short notice for water quality or weather, including lightning nearby. Mornings are the best time for lap swimming.

Getting there and facilities
