What it's like

The pool sits on the rock shelf at the southern end of the beach, below the headland. The main pool is 50 m long, good for laps, with a separate shallow children's pool alongside. Swell breaks over the outer wall on bigger days.

The first swimming spot here was a natural shallow basin in the rock shelf. After the beach opened to the public in 1912, locals and surf club members began cutting a pool by hand. Council extended it to 33 m in 1919 and to 50 m in 1930, when the first children's pool was added; the current children's pool dates from 1973. In 2019 it was renamed after Isa Wye, who spent 85 years with the Dee Why Ladies Amateur Swimming Club.

When to go

Early mornings for laps, mid-morning for families. Council publishes a dated cleaning roster, and the pool is closed while it refills after each clean, which can take longer in flat seas. Check the roster before you go.

Getting there and facilities

The pool is off Oaks Avenue at the southern end of Dee Why Beach. There are accessible toilets and showers, and the cafes and restaurants of The Strand are a short walk along the beachfront. Buses on Pittwater Road stop in Dee Why.

Good to know

There are no lifeguards at the pool itself. The rocks are slippery.
